Dear penpal,
Welcome to the first ever post. I can’t express how happy I am to be able to send out this mini letter today. I am both excited and nervous.
My year started on a very sad tone. During the Christmas week, I sprained my ankle. So, there I was, on the first day of the year, sitting on the bed keeping my swollen feet elevated with a pillow underneath.
The early days, I was supposed to visit Puri, the very popular beach town for quick revelling in seaside and for the devotees of Lord Jagannath. However, after looking at the condition of my foot my parents thought to cancel our booking. But I know that it has been a wish for a long time for them to visit the great Jagannath temple so I bit back the cries of pain, tied the crepe bandage on my feet, prayed to my patron gods and packed for the tour.
But guess what? Thank god I did.
Now please know that, I consider myself a mountain person. I love the stoic serenity of the chilly mountain air and snow filled summits. Most popular beaches in India are noisy, especially Puri which is a religious township.
Even though it was difficult at first I was able to find the balance. The Bay of Bengal looked exotic during the sunset and I finally could submerged myself into the calmness that seaside provides. The cacophony stayed behind me and could touch me no more.
And at that moment I realised, the year is going to get better. It felt like almost a sign. A beautiful sunset, gifted to me by the sea, the sky, the sun and nature. I am grateful to the sea for giving me the opportunity to experience such a beautiful moment.
So, dear penpal, I wish that you also find a sign for yourself. I wish that you have a very happy new year ahead.
Until next time. Stay happy and healthy.
Yours truly,
Veenita
